Card Safety

Send Print

Following these guidelines you may feel more confident about safety of your card!

Receiving card
1.

After receiving a card, please sign your name immediately on the special signature panel in the reverse side of the card.

2.

If you have received a card by courier mail or in a representative office of the Bank, please notify the Bank in writing of the card receipt, otherwise it will not be possible to use the card

Tips for keeping your card safe
1.

Keep and protect your card as if it were cash, never leave it unattended in the places where other people can easily reach it (for example, in a car, pastime places, beaches etc.). Remember that if your card is used by your relatives or friends you will assume responsibility for all such transactions/operations.

2.

Do not keep a card near your mobile phone, as well as near a sound system, or other subjects that contain magnet elements– it may cause demagnetization of the card magnetic track. Demagnetized cards will be invalid and you will have to apply for a new card.

3.

Keep the card carefully, prevent any mechanic damage of your card, and do not expose it to high temperature.

4.

Write down your card number (e.g. in your notebook or mobile phone) and card account number; make a list of phone numbers where to call in case your card is lost or stolen! Keep this information handy and in a safe place.

5.

It is best to memorize the card PIN code! Do not keep your PIN in the wallet or together with the card. If you need to write down your PIN code, use a TKB PIN code card. Remember, if your card has been stolen, the thief will be able to freely use all money of your card account in case your electronic signature or PIN code is available to him.

6.

Do not disclose your PIN code to anybody! You are the only person who needs to know your PIN. Neither a seller nor a police or a bank officer has the right or need to ask you for PIN code of your card.

7.

Do not send your card account number, PIN code, passwords or any other financial information by electronic mail.

8.

Never reply to electronic mails, which require your personal identification information (PIN codes, account numbers, passwords etc.). Do not open the internet sites, where such types of electronic messages are found.

9.

As soon as you are aware that your card has been lost or stolen, contact the Card Service centre "First Data Latvia" immediately (at round-the-clock tel.+371 7092555) or JSС “TRASTA KOMERCBANKA” (at business hours tel.+371 7027777), and report your card as lost or stolen. It is important to report as soon as possible in order to preserve your money safe. In all events, please notify the Bank and, if necessary, the police in writing, of the card loss/theft.
Besides, a lost/stolen card can be blocked round-the-clock via TKB Internetbank TrastNet by clicking the button "Payment card blocking" and filling out the relevant fields. Here you can send a written notice to the Bank reasoning the blocking of your card.

10.

Keep the documents, confirming transactions (for example, purchase receipts, flight tickets, cash withdrawal receipts and etc.), for 6 months and afterwards destroy all receipts and bills where your card number can be seen. Under no circumstances should you leave records of your transactions in the places where transactions were made, do not throw them away in public places.

11.

After receiving a monthly card account statement always check if all transactions listed in the statement have been accomplished by you, comparing them with transaction documents, receipts, and bills. Particularly, check your card account after a trip. If you notice a purchase, cash withdrawal or some other transactions not performed by you, immediately notify the Bank in writing. Remember that the time to dispute a transaction is limited.

Using ATM (cash dispensers) for cash withdrawal
1.

If you notice any extra devices or wires connected to ATM, or an ATM is damaged, notify, if possible, the closest bank or police. Find another ATM for cash withdrawal.

2.

If the ATM is located in a hidden or poorly lit place, it is better to find another cash dispenser.

3.

If you notice something suspicious, cancel the transaction and leave the cash dispenser right after getting back your card.

4.

If the cash dispenser is not returning your card back, do not use help of unknown people; do not enter your PIN code visibly to others. In case of an incident, please immediately dial the telephone number indicated on the dispenser!

5.

Make sure that the next standing person or some other close standing person is not watching your PIN while you are entering it.

6.

Remember, if you enter a wrong PIN three times in succession the cash dispenser will withhold your card.

7.

Do not count your money near a cash dispenser; take the money and transaction documents (receipts, statements, etc.) and leave the dispenser immediately.

Making purchases in shops, restaurants and other trade outlets
1.

At any trade outlet a card must be authorized at your presence. You have to see your card at the moment of its authorization.

2.

The sales person has the rights to ask you to show your identity documents.

3.

Before signing a receipt/bill always make sure that the information and sum of transaction on the receipt/bill is correct. Do not sign an empty or half-completed receipt/bill and cross out each empty row of the sums above the total amount of transaction.

4.

If entering of your PIN is necessary to verify a transaction, make sure that a close standing customer/salesman is not watching your PIN.

5.

Make sure that after making a transaction you have received your card back.

6.

Keep the documents confirming transaction: purchase receipts, etc., for six months; afterwards destroy all receipts and bills where your card number can be seen.

Making purchase via the Internet.
1.

Read carefully the Privacy Policy offered by the online merchant.

2.

Make sure that the online merchant applies relevant security measures to its home page and data. At registration for online shopping and while purchasing the address of the home page should begin with “https://” (not only with “http://”), which indicates that encoding of card data is being effected (most frequently by means of SSL protocol) by sending them directly from the home page to the merchant’s server.

3.

Do not disclose your card number unless you use the card to pay for purchases.

4.

Do not disclose the password which you use to access your account or your online service provider.

5.

Ask for opinion of your friends/colleagues concerning the Internet shop service quality.

6.

Read comments/references of clients in relation to the internet shop.

7.

Print out a full description of the product or service, time of the transaction and price of the service. Save all documents, confirming the purchase, or electronic e-mails that you have received from the merchant.

8.

Observance of all above mentioned rules can not give you a complete guarantee for successful online shopping; however, paying by credit cards online is one of the best and most convenient payment types, because it allows disputing of transactions/deals in case of undelivered or receiving inappropriate goods.
